TPO's record of innovation combines the strengths and synergies of its highly complementary and successful business partners ¡V Philips MDS and Toppoloy Optoelectronics. Innovations include these industry-leading activities:
- Pioneered Chip-On-Glass (COG) technology for high volume mobile display STN applications, revolutionizing mobile display performance
- First to showcase low power active matrix displays, setting the global industry on the road to single chip solutions
- First to introduce Color Adjustable Technology (CAT)
- Led the development of in-cell diffuse reflector performance, now the norm in the mobile industry for transflective performance
- First to demonstrate mirror display for mobile telecommunications and automotive applications
- First to introduce lead-free technologies for display products
- First to demonstrate LifePix™ picture improvement algorithms integrated in driver or bridge integrated circuits designed specifically for the mobile market, such as image quality enhancement to realize massive improvements in outdoor and indoor display color performance, dynamic backlight and contrast boosting to increase battery life and/ image quality for truly mobile multimedia.
- Demonstrated the first autostereoscopic, high brightness, multi-view switchable 2D/3D display for mass production
- Demonstrated continuous improvement of the display users' experience through trend-setting innovations in key performance areas such as wide viewing angle,(high contrast rate, vivid true colors, low power consumption, high in-cell reflectivity, and thinner and smaller sizes.
- Led the industry in speaker/display integration with a "Singing Display" combining the speaker and the display to save space or improve functionality with the same footprint and without compromising acoustic quality
- Developed innovative "windowless" technology via CloseView ¡V reducing display thickness by eliminating the "front window" and allowing phone designers to benefit from thinner models as well as richer color and increased contrast ¡V while maintaining the same design robustness as with a protection window.
- Demonstrated superior RGBW sub-pixel rendering and color mapping technology, enabling high perceived resolution displays at a lower pixel-density panel and, consequently, with high transmissive or reflective attributes
- Reinforced role as a leading player in international standardization towards High Speed Serial Display Interface technologies, enabling robust, low power, and small form-factor implementation of high-resolution display modules
- Demonstrated the first reliable integration of gate-driver functionality in a-Si on glass, allowing for a more symmetrical design, and paving the way for higher pixel densities and more cost-efficient a-Si TFT-LCDs.
- Demonstrated a highly integrated "SOP-3" panel
- First to develop a 384-column (128 x RGB)) by 160-row LTPS TFT display that integrates a 1-bit/pixel frame-store memory and 4-bit DACs, allowing static images to be displayed in eight colors with a total power consumption of 1 mW.
- Led industry in providing highly integrated single-chip MSTN driver solutions
- First to demonstrate breakthrough low power in AMLCD
- Designed and positioned color STN as viable, cost-effective alternative to mono-STN
